Orson Clark - Apr '72 - Pg 10
Interviewer: You mentioned that you were involved in athletics in the various schools. What kind of competitions did they have between other schools?
Orson Clark: There was competition with the Ogden schools, Brigham, and even the high schools in the Cache Valley.
Interviewer: Which school were you in at the time you were competing with these other schools?
Orson Clark: In the Davis High School in Kaysville.
Interviewer: You played basketball?
Orson Clark: I played on their basketball team and their football team.
Interviewer: When you got to the University and you were still in athletics, what schools did they compete against?
Orson Clark: When I was on the freshman team at the Utah State Agricultural College, we just played the local teams around.
Interviewer: What do you mean by local?
Orson Clark: The local high school teams. One of the games we played at the Davis High School. One of the players there wanted to get me out of the game, so they pushed me against a cement wall while we were playing and running down. There I was knocked unconscious and had a cut above my eye that took several stitches.
Interviewer: What did they hope to accomplish by getting you out of the game?
Orson Clark: They knew that I went to school there the year before and they hated to see our team win.
Interviewer: When you were at the University of Utah, what athletics did you say you were involved with?
Orson Clark: I didn't participate in any physical education activities at all at the University of Utah. I had work and worked my way through college. I went to school in the morning and worked in the afternoon.
Interviewer: What type of work did you do?
Orson Clark: I worked for the American Express. I would get out of school at three o'clock, go down and change my clothes, get on my bicycle, go to work at three-thirty, and work until midnight. I would peddle my bicycle back home, go to bed for a few hours, get up, and I had an eight o'clock class.
