The road has been (p.4) constructed in the side of solid cliffs which hand over the cars and shoot into the air for hundreds of feet. Leaving the canyon we follow up the river through a small valley about a mile wide. In this valley are hundreds of acres of me(a)dowland. Saw great amount of hay and some nice beef cattle. Arrive at Gunnison for breakfast. Here another enjine (sic) joins us. Continue to the southeast from Gunnison up a very small canyon the grade being very heavy. …er LaRue and was traveling in Colorado with my new husband, and so Sherman had no home. He tried to sleep in cars and with a few friends, and he caught cold and was very ill. LaRue left Grant and rented a place on F Street in a home and had two girls live with her to help with the rent so that she could make a home for Sherman. The house was later sold, and LaRue and Sherman lived in a basement apartment on B Street and Second Avenue. A year later Sherman was in an accident. Coming from the airport, a truck loaded with soil came out of a side street and struck Sherman's car. The truck was driven by a seventeen year old boy.
