Copying from Lela’s diary: June 27, 1933 –up at 4 a.m., eager to be off for home. At 8:45 again viewed the snow-capped peaks of the Rockies. June 28 –eleven-thirty, at home. A happy honeymoon and a happy bride. June 29 –Busy getting acquainted with my new family. Happy response from Wayne and Alan. June 30–Friday. Mother Clark left with Bryant. Weight of responsibility was deeply felt. 9 p.m., a real “chivere.” The next day churned 3 pounds butter and Monday a “family-sided” wash. Lela was more than equal to the occas…

It was a beautiful afternoon and delicious dinner. We gave Paul and Gayle a book of Ezra Thompson Clark written by Annie Clark Tanner. I wrote some sentiments in it and our names. We had a lovely time. Scott Cook is a son of George Cook, Mother's third husband. A week before we gave our talks, I came down with the flu and was very ill, especially on my chest, and I coughed a lot and almost lost my voice. I must have been run down. …is sister and his daughter in Colorado. My life was very enjoyable in this home with George E. Cook. In the summer of 1950 we had a lovely trip to New York with Clark, Modesta, and family in Clark's car. On our way back, we picked up a new trailer in Detroit. We enjoyed sleeping in the trailer on the way home. The next September 1950 after we had been to a show together we made waffles for some of his family at home. He told me he was going to the doctor to get a checkup. The examination showed he had a weak heart.

…Robinson, was on a mission in Colorado. He went to the shoemaker to have his shoes half-soled. In the conversation they had, the shoemaker asked the missionary where he was from. When he said Farmington, Utah, the man said he had been to Farmington years ago. He was in dire circumstances and hungry. He went to the closest house from the railroad and described the house and the lady of the house which was my mother. She had given him a lovely meal. He said, "I will not charge you for mending your shoes because that lady in your town was so good to me." Often Mother would send me to Sister Jones home to get some yeast which Sister Jones like to make for her neighbors. Mother gave me a little …

LaRue left Grant and rented a place on F Street in a home and had two girls live with her to help with the rent so that she could make a home for Sherman. The house was later sold, and LaRue and Sherman lived in a basement apartment on B Street and Second Avenue. A year later Sherman was in an accident. Coming from the airport, a truck loaded with soil came out of a side street and struck Sherman's car. The truck was driven by a seventeen year old boy.
