Dear Father:

Last night I wrote you a few lines and will now write more with the view of letting you understand what I would like to do. You must do what is for the best good.

I want to visit the Exposition and get as far East as Boston too. There is no use of taking time to explain all; but I want to see and get the benefit of traveling some to points of interest.

I thought I could buy an excursion ticket to chicago and go by way of Cincinatti and return by to way of New York and then go by steamer from W. York to Boston and then have a ticket sent me from Spence[…] to go from Boston to Salt Lake[.]

That might cost more than to have Bro. Spence buy the tickets so that I can go from here to Chicago and then to Boston and to Salt Lake. If it costs too much more to go farther east than New York[.]

I am willing to content myself with that much of a visit and that visit can be done by my visiting east before going to Chicago, something like Wilford did. Have my ticket so that I can go over the D.&R. G.R.R.

Do not have the time limited to too short a time.

Send my mail to Gordonsville, Orange Co. Virginia.

Do not spend more money for Rail Road [railroad] tickets than you feel like; for I did not make the money I am getting the benefit of and I want to do for the best. If I go as far east as Boston I go for good.

I feel like asking our Heavenly Father to be with me in leaving my field where we have Heavens [Heaven’s] guidance from the evils of the world to a greatest degree. I hope to be guided in my travel till [until] I reach home.

Hope you are feeling better than you were when Amasa wrote.

Tell mother I was pleased

to receive her photograph and framflet[…] [pamphlet?]. Bro. Richards had hope of seeing me again here; but I doubt that we shall meet him or Bro. Smith. They are well I believe. Excuse hase[…] [haste?] in writing.

Affectionately,
