LG: You say that Aunt Mary was the boss. In what way? Was she the boss as the first wife?
LC: I don't know, only that we thought she was. It was her home and we went into her home. We had love for her, and we had respect. We knew how to treat someone that is older. We treated her nice.

LG: Tell me some more about your father.
LC: My father had a large farm, cattle, orchards, and a lot of land. It was his wish that all his family stay there with him or be at Morgan, Georgetown and other places. He sent his older sons Joseph, Hyrum, Charles, Edward, Welford, and sometimes later Eugene, Nathan, and John to help drive the cattle to Georgetown in the summer and back to Farmington in the winter. he said, "If you will stay with me and work on these farms, I will build you all a big home." They were willing to do this because they thought so much of him. He was a great financer, and they knew he was. He had that great blessing from the Prophet Joseph Smith that he would always be successful. So Father did build large homes on both sides of the street in Farmington. Then it was called Clark Street. He also build homes elsewhere. Brigham Young asked Father to colonize these various places.
LG: Tell me about their work on the farm.
LC: My brothers used to take loads of hay to town, and they would be up early in the morning loading this hay on the rack. Then at 4:00 a.m. they would drive to Salt Lake to sell this hay. Of course, it had already been sold ahead of time to certain people in Salt Lake. Although my father had money and they could well afford buying lunch, they always took a lunch with them from home.
Oftentimes my brother Eugene would bring home some broken crackers from the crakcer factory and broken candy. We younger children were always sticking around to get these goodies.
LG: Tell me about the homes and where you would have activites. For example, where did your family celebrate Christmas?
LC: Most always over to Aunt Mary's. We would celebrate it together.
LG: What type of things would you do?
