Lucille Clark: There were two bedrooms upstairs. One room had a stove pipe or a hole and we had a range. So we range and put it in the front room and we had the bedroom in the back. We had to go clear to the back of the house to go to the bathroom.

Interviewer: Did you have an indoor toilet or did you have an outhouse.

Lucille Clark: it was indoor.

Interviewer: When did indoor toilets come into Farmington, do you remember?

Lucille Clark: I know when ours came in. Father remodeled the house in 1907 and he put in a bathroom. We had a bathtub with hot and cold water and a toilet.

Interviewer: I'll bet that was a tremendous achievement, wasn't it?

Lucille Clark: It was.

Orson Clark: Well anyway, the landowner by the name or Granger, we were renting from him.

Interviewer: How much did you pay for the month for those two rooms? Can you remember what your rent was?

Ruth Knowlton: I'd be surprised if you did because I can't remember what we paid when were living in Nassau County.

Lucille Clark: I know how much we paid, eighteen dollars.

Orson Clark: Anyway, it was coming close to Christmas time and this man worked for Railway Express there in Salt Lake. He said, "They hire extra people around Christmas time, why don't you go down and apply?" So I decided, "Well, I will." I went down and made application and they let me go to work. I was going to school so I would have to take the afternoon or evening shift. They wouldn't put me on regular but just said, "When we need you, we'll call you." The first job I had of it was taking care of the horses, cleaning out the stables and the harnessing and unhitching.

Interviewer: How much were you paid an hour?

Orson Clark: I forget, I think it was around ninety dollars a month.

Interviewer: The first job I ever had, except working for neighbors and farmers, I got 25 cents an hour.

Orson Clark: well, this you see, was working for Railway Express.
