Rulon W Clark -3-

so much time on long train rides and in depots and hotels, Rulon completed a three year law course in two years, passed the bar and was admitted to the Utah Bar Association on October 14, 1930. When the Union Pacific moved its claim office to Omaha, he decided to stay in Salt Lake and practice law.

On July 1, 193, he was appointed Juvenile Judge for Salt Lake, Tooele, Summitt, and Daggett Counties. After 26 years as Judge and 21 years as a member of the National Council of Juvenile Judges, Rulon resigned to go into private practice with his son Calvin. Many tributes and expressions of deep gratitude were conveyed to him from National, State Local leaders for the wisdom, dedication and distinction with which he served the Juvenile Court, the State of Utah and the Juvenile Court movement in this great nation. Upon his retirement, two judges were hired to handle his work load, and shortly afterwards a third judge was added.

Rulon participated in many community activities and enjoyed the scouting program. He started the scouting program in Ephraim and continued his work on the Salt Lake Boy Scout Council beginning in June 1933 and continuing many years. He received the Silver Beaver award in Feb., 1969.

Rulon was a member of the Salt Lake Board of Education for twelve years and was active in many other community and social service groups.

Edward and Wealthy were devoted Latter-day Saints and brought their children up with the feeling that church attendance and activity was the proper way of life. Rulon was sent to Primary, Sunday School and other church meetings at an early age and he tried to do his duties as he had been taught. As a deacon, one of his jobs was to pump the organ in church meetings. As a teacher he helped gather fast offerings by going from house to house with the horse and buggy, picking up vegetables, eggs, or anything else people wanted to give, taking the materials to the Bishop's Storehouse, and then delivering boxes of food, etc., to the poor.

Along with many teaching and leadership positions in the auxiliaries Rulon was a High Counselor six years (two years at age 82-84) and in the Emigration Stake Presidency for sixteen years. he was High Priest Group leader at age 80. On two different occasions, Rulon has had the privilege of attending Solemn Assemblies in the large assembly room at the top of the Salt Lake Temple, once as a High Counselor and once as a member of the Stake Presidency. Rulon wrote, "It appears that present-day conditions are leading to the closing scene of this earth. Our leaders are encouraging us to prepare and be prepared for the end, to endure to the end." Rulon was a wonderful example, teaching the gospel through the life he lived.

Rulon closed his autobiography with, "I have witnessed many blessings and manifestations of healing in my life, but the real testimony comes from working in the Church, from getting the spirit and inspiration of the Holy Ghost which bears testimony of the assurance of the divinity of the work of the Lord as led by hid ordained, inspired prophets. I love the Lord and advise my posterity to live close to him and follow his teaching as best they can. To my family, I leave my blessing and best wishes for success and happiness and the joy that comes from right living."
