night. It was enough to last us another week. Of course we would go to the store and buy other things to go with what we had. We got along real well. I went two years to the L.D.S. University. Now then my father didn't want me to go down to school anymore. One of my sisters wanted me to go down to the B.Y.U., but it seemed like father kind of clung onto me. He said, "I'd rather you'd stay home"; I enjoyed going to the L.D.S. school.
Keith When you were a child, what church activities did you participate in?
Laura I was a Sunday School teacher. Since then I've had several of the ones that were in the class mention to me how they enjoyed the class. I was in my teens when I started to be a Sunday School teacher. When I was 17 years old Lagoon came to Farmington; Bishop Secrist, my my parents, and mothers of these other young people about my age were real concerned about.it. Bishop Secrist went to Wealthy Richards Clark and asked her and Sister Walsh, Sadah Louise ("Louie") Oviath to organize the young people into a club. This club was called the "Farmington Evening Recreation Club" and we met every week for recreation. We'd have a program, we kept minutes, and we always had prayer at the beginning and had prayer at the end of it. We had surprise parties and Halloween parties; our whole life was supervised by this club.
Keith How long did this club last?
Laura I think its the oldest club in existence, the longest continual club. We all left Farmington, and most of us married. It was discontinued for a short time, but when I was a widow it was called together again. It was called the "'Farmington Recreation Club" when we first met, we met at Sister Walsh's home in Farmington, which was on the north side of State Street. Since then we all have meet twice a year, every conference time. We would meet in this club, and that meant a lot to us because we could visit and talk together, and tell of our lives. We have grown old now together and we tell of our experiences.
Keith What has happened to this club now?
Laura It was discontinued two years ago when George Robinson, the last president of the club, passed away. Now only three of us are left; they have all passed away
