My mother spoke perfect English. In Farmington in those days, there were no radios or televisions, so we relyed on things that went on up in the hall. Often times a group a theatrical people would come through and perform. We had to open our homes to these people to stay all night. We had four bedrooms upstairs, and my mother would allow some of these people to come in to her home to sleep. They made the remark to several people, that my mother's Englsih was grammatically perfect. Many people who associated with my mother spoke of her perfect English.
Keith Is there anything your father ever told you that made you respect your mother even more?
Laura My father always praised my mother, he always appreciated and mentioned the clothing she wore, and how well her house was kept. She was such a clean person, and she always kept her hair primped; and my father always noticed this too, for her hair always looked pretty parted in middle and primped on each side. She always wore beautiful dresses. In those days they always wore tight fitting dresses, and mother always looked very beautiful. At on time Aunt Mary noticed Mother's dress, and said oh how beautiful her dress was. Father said "Oh yes Susan always looks so beautiful.
Keith Where can we find pictures of your mother and your father?
Laura In the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers museum. My father's with Aunt Mary, in the same frame taken at their golden wedding anniversary. She has a beautiful golden dress; a golden colored dress with lace, and she looks beautiful. Father looks beautiful in this picture. At the side of them is another frame with my mother's picture in a large gold frame.
Keith Were there any games that you used to play?
Laura We used to play games like "Pit". There were card games like "Pit" and different games like "Tiddly Winks" and "Croquet" game out on the lawn. You know father often times would get out there.
