Missionary Journal of Amasa L. Clark. Nov. 22, 1887. I received a letter of inquiry from the first Seven Presidents of Seventies dated Sept. 20, 1887, desiring to know my condition and feelings in regard to peforming a mission if my service should be needed within the next three years. In answer I said I was willing to do what was required at my hands. On the 3rd of Nov. 1887 I received a letter from President (Wilford) Woodruff stating that my name had been accepted as a missionary to the Southern States & that I was expected to start on the 15th of the same month. Before starting I moved (d) Alice my wife down to my fathers and according to arrangements started from Salt Lake City on the 1…

When she was called with her husband to the New York Rochester mission, Sister Dorothy Nielson was told by her grown children, "Now you can tell your Angel Moroni story, Mom." She and her husband, Jack, of the Hunter 2nd Ward, Salt Lake Hunter Stake, were assigned as couple missionaries to serve at the Church historic sites in the Palmyra area. The statue of the Angel Moroni atop the Hill Cumorah, created by the prominent Norweigian sculptor Torleif Knaphus, has special meaning to Sister Nielson and her family. . During the Depression, her father, Elwin Clark, rented a home in Salt Lake City from Knaphus. Her father was a bricklayer and needed work. He did odd jobs for the sculptor. Knaphus …

Ezra James traveled to England from New York via ship and landed in Liverpool on Aug. 11, 1865. At that time he was appointed to labor in the Worcestershire conference as a traveling elder. Little is known of the specifics of his service during the early part of his mission in central England because no journals were kept and there is little evidence of what he did.. He apparently proved faithful in his initial thrust because he was appointed to preside over the Dorsetshire conference on Jan. 30, 1866. It was while in service in that conference that he purchased a pair of leather-bound journals in which he would detail his comings and going and, later in his mission, some of his thoughts and…

(While administering to Sister Martha Duncan, I was impressed to say she would have a son, and after I had administered to her I told all present so. May I not be disappointed.) "Later, John, my brother, and Brother Botrell coming in. I went with them, or they with me to Sister Duncan's home, the mother of John Duncan, the deceased man. Here we found a full house and Sister Duncan almost beside herself. Bishop Henry Lee and Brother Henry Rampton and others were washing the body. We remained some time; then left for home. On reaching home, I wrote a short article …

Ed was a man of complete and total integrity and he always put in an honest day's work. This value of hard work was instilled in his children and lives on in his posterity to this day. Ed worked on the family farm during his youth and was a full-time farmer from his return from the mission field until 1924. He then worked for Miller Floral Company in Farmington until his retirement in 1960. He used his farming talents in his immaculate garden, orchard and lawn. In the workplace and at home, Ed Clark was never idle.. Ed had a strong testimony and freely gave of his time and talents to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving capably and devotedly in many Church callings. In ad…

of the year especially so by the time I am returned to Southampton. I have already wrote about my attending the London conference & how I enjoyed myself there. I think I have travelled about enough this year, much more than I anticipated when coming to this Conference but as the Conference has been small it has been a benefit to me, at which I appreciate it. I have the privilege of being in the company of Bro Hill especially in the trip to Jersey & after we came back I went to Portsmouth & Chichester, with Bro Marrins, Ensign, whose Mother lives in Weeber Valley [Weber Valley], he is truly a Man of God, will do a good work I believe. Bro Penrose at London wished to be remembered to all he is…

Their father was sad that his children should take his course but he was known as a kindly and loving man and as a result told his daughter, Margaret, to come back home when she found out her mistake. She was married when she was twenty-five years old and arrived with her husband and his first wife in Salt Lake in September of that same year. For the next fourteen years she lived in a number of places including Salt lake City, Provo for a few months, Over Jordan, Bountiful, and West Weber and in 1862 her husband bought a home and a farm in Centerville where she lived for fifty-five years, spending her last two years in…

Interviewer: And they were accepted by the community with no problems there? Lucille Clark: Yes. They named her Ruth. Interviewer: See, Brigham Young encouraged the early members of the church to take Indian children. And some of the men were encouraged to marry Indian girls. I have often wondered what happened to their children. Lucille Clark: Well, she married a white man. Orson Clark: Indian Annie, they used to call the mother. Interviewer: Were you ever up there in her home at all? Orson Clark: No sir, I've never been up there. They have a road. There is a family that…

15 Mother had been saving up money for them all to emigrate to Zion and my mothen being the oldest, was the first to make away to come. This was five years after they were baptized and Susan was twenty-two years of age. She and her father sang in the Village Church Choir. She loved the seashore and England. and it was hard for her to leave her homeland and especially her Grandmother. Susan knew she would never see her again. My mother rode in a carriage about a day and night over to Liverpool. She left there on April 4, 1861 ona sailing vessel called "Manchester." They were six weeks crossing the ocean. It was a very rough voyage. At one time when a fierce storm came up, the water washed up …
